Functional Medicine Appointments in Cary & Wake Forest

Dr Tammy examining patients handWe take our role as your partner in achieving your health goals very seriously, and therefore want to ensure this is the best place for you to do that. To get started, we begin with having every new patient do a 15-minute complementary consultation with Dr. Tammy Atkinson. This is to create an initial connection to ensure a good fit and to give you the opportunity to know that this is the right place for you.

We help to guide you and help to create support for you, while honoring the commitment to hard work and accountability to yourself throughout your transformational journey to health. Upon completion of this consult, should we decide to move forward together, you will have the opportunity to start your case review process by completing your health journey questionnaire, complete a medical symptom questionnaire, receive an order for initial blood work and set up the initial full intake appointment.

Dr. Tammy Atkinson practices Functional Medicine and is a Doctor of Chiropractic. Dr Atkinson has received her training in functional medicine from the Institute for Functional Medicine. What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine delves into the root causes of illness, employing a systems-oriented, scientifically-backed approach that fosters a collaborative partnership between patient and practitioner. Departing from the conventional disease-focused model, functional medicine addresses the entirety of an individual. At the core of this philosophy is the belief that no two patients are alike, and every individual deserves the level of care one would provide for their own family.

This progressive approach to healthcare is tailored to meet the demands of the 21st century. Functional medicine practitioners invest time in understanding their patients’ histories, recognizing the intricate interplay of genetics, environment, and lifestyle factors that impact long-term health and the development of chronic conditions.

Armed with this comprehensive understanding, Functional medicine practitioners conduct thorough evaluations, including in-depth blood analyses, alongside assessments such as food sensitivity tests, saliva tests, and stool analyses. This wealth of data informs the creation of personalized health plans uniquely suited to each patient’s needs.

We Get to the Root Cause of Your Problem

Functional medicine at Chiropractic Pain & Injury Center embodies a patient-centered, evidence-based approach aimed at uncovering the root cause of illness and fostering overall well-being. Our holistic methodology ensures that we consider all aspects of your health.

We act as detectives, meticulously examining your symptoms to pinpoint the underlying source of your ailment. Rather than merely addressing isolated symptoms, we focus on treating the entire individual, paving the way for sustained health and vitality.

Dr. Atkinson conducts a thorough assessment of your medical history and performs comprehensive evaluations to determine if our practice is the right fit for your needs. Dr. Atkinson identifies the root cause of your discomfort, utilizing a combination of laboratory testing, chiropractic adjustments, light and laser therapy, physical exercises, traction, posture correction, and ergonomic evaluation , and nutritional counseling to address it.

Our primary objective is to alleviate your pain and then proceed to correct and stabilize your condition, ensuring your journey to optimal health is both effective and sustainable.

What Makes Functional Medicine Different?

Functional medicine searches for how and why your illness occurs. This new approach aims to restore your health by addressing the actual root causes of disease for each individual. Using a systems biology approach to evaluation we discover the specific dysfunctions that have contributed to your disease state. Functional medicine provides tools and a reproducible method to enable clinicians to identify dysfunction and promote balance in physiology as the primary means of improving your health.

Dr. Tammy Atkinson is a chiropractor and functional medicine practitioner, and an active member of the Institute for Functional Medicine. She has taken over 150 hours of post-graduate training from the Institute for Functional Medicine(IFM) and is working towards certification. IFM is the only organization providing functional medicine certification along with educational programs directly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). Dr. Atkinson’s training focuses on GI function and dysfunction, immune health, therapeutic food plans, chronic pain, neurodegeneration, headaches, toxicity, mitochondrial dysfunction, stress management, anxiety, and depression.
